Professional Biography: James M. Levin MD AAHIVM
Dr. James Levin is Chairman of the Infectious Disease Department of Dean Health System (DHS); in addition to his role as Medical Director of the Wound Care Program, the Outpatient Infusion Center, and the International Travel Center of DHS based in Madison, WI. His hospital affiliations are also through DHS: St. Mary's Hospital, Madison, WI; St. Clare Hospital and Health Services, Baraboo, WI; and Sauk Prairie Memorial Hospital, Prairie du Sac, WI. He is also nationally recognized as an HIV Specialist through the American Academy of HIV Medicine (AAHIVM).
Dr. Levin received his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Wisconsin followed by his Doctor of Medicine degree from the Medical College of Wisconsin. He then completed an internship and residency at the UCLA San Fernando Residency Program in Sepulveda, CA. He successfully accomplished his education goals with a Fellowship in the Section of Infectious Disease at Rush - Presbyterian, St. Luke's Medical Center in Chicago, IL.
In addition to an active clinical practice in infectious disease and HIV medicine, Dr. Levin is currently involved in several clinical studies as a Principle Investigator in the treatment of chronic Hepatitis C. He has also participated in nearly 20 studies in the recent past as Principle Investigator with regards to treatment of Hepatitis C, HIV, and safety and efficacy profiles related to antibiotics for treatment of certain infectious diseases. As a frequent national speaker on the topics of HIV and Hepatitis, Dr. Levin lends a great amount of credibility to his presentations with his numerous co-authored publications and abstracts.
Dr. Levin also plays an active role in the medical community through the American Liver Foundation - WI chapter as Co-Chair of the Medical Advisory Committee, as well as member of the IDSA (Infectious Disease Society of America) and the Midwest Hepatitis Group. He also holds various memberships and consultant positions within the Dean Health System. Dr. Levin lives in Verona, WI with his wife and four children.
